AVERY COONLEY HOUSE TALK AUG. 23

AVV 7-30 #707785

PORTLAND, MAINE — The Portland Museum of Art will present a lecture, “The Restoration Story of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Avery Coonley House by Dean Eastman,” Thursday, August 23, 2 to 4 pm, in the auditorium, free with museum admission.

The 1907 Coonley estate is considered to be one of the most significant of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie House period. Dean and Ella Mae Eastman bought a portion of the estate in 2000 and the Coach House in late 2005. The story of Wright’s favorite house (as stated in his 1932 autobiography), its history and its restoration will be described by an inside and outside visual tour.

“Before” and “during” images will be used to describe various architectural elements, materials, and processes of the restoration, including the Jens Jenson-based landscape and current furnishings.

The museum is downtown at the corner of High and Congress Streets. For information, www.portlandmuseum.org or 207-775-6148.
