IRS Introduces Taxpayer Advocate
DANBURY â Area residents are invited to meet with Fran Romano, the Internal Revenue Service Taxpayers Advocate for Connecticut, on Thursday, August 16. Ms Romano, the Connecticut Taxpayer Advocate since 1990, will be at the IRS Danbury office at 131 West Street on August 16, from 9 am until 3 pm.
Taxpayers will have a chance to meet with the advocate one-on-one to discuss any question they have concerning the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Questions concerning this event can be directed to the TAS at 860-756-4555.
The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an independent arm of the IRS established to protect taxpayer rights and ensure fair treatment. Its mission is to help taxpayers solve problems with the IRS and recommend changes that will prevent them.
âConnecticut taxpayersâ federal returns generally go through without a hitch and if there is a problem it is generally solved with a call or letter to the IRS,â said Ms Romano. âHowever, if you do run into a tougher problem or are facing a significant hardship, the Taxpayer Advocate Service is here to help.â
Cases handled through the Taxpayer Advocate Service are assigned a personal Taxpayer Advocate who reviews the situation from the taxpayerâs point of view and works with the taxpayer until the matter is resolved. Issues that the TAS has successfully resolved range from expediting refunds for individuals with extreme hardships to unraveling complex business tax matters.
