Richard Michael Preston, 52, of Newtown, beloved son of Joseph Michael Preston of Florida and the late Eleanor (Boroczky) Preston, died in his home on August 2.
Born in Bridgeport on January 17, 1948, he was a Monroe resident for most of his life, before moving to Newtown seven years ago. He was a 1966 graduate of Masuk High School, a graduate of the Hartford Airline Training School of Delta Airlines, and attended Housatonic Community College. A US Army veteran, he served as a sergeant during the Vietnam War. Mr Preston was an employee of the Curtis Packaging Company of Sandy Hook, and was previously employed by the Perkin Elmer Company of Norwalk.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Sarah Rebecca Preston, stepdaughter, Nicole Vaccaro, and his former spouse, Deborah (Kerma) Preston, all of New York; two brothers, Michael Preston and his wife, Ann, of Sandy Hook and Joseph Preston of Woodbury; two sisters, Patricia Stapleton and her husband, Vincent, of Stratford and Ann Marie Preston of Ansonia; stepmother, Marion (Wilson) Preston of Florida; nephews, Brian Smith, Joseph and Matthew Miklus; nieces, Charlene Vasas and her husband, Steve, Rebecca and Shannon Preston; and a grand niece, Amanda Vasas.
A Funeral Service with full military honors was held August 8 in the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), Monroe.
