Military Museum Announces New Summer Hours

DANBURY — As a result of high fuel costs and construction along I-84, the Military Museum of Southern New England has experienced reduced attendance during midweek days. As a result, the museum has announced a change in its operating hours, effective August 14. The museum will now be open Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, noon to 5 pm only.

Currently on view is “Names on the Wall,” a computer terminal with links to Vietnam War casualty lists, model dioramas depicting the Vietnam experience, and artifacts from the war. “Story of the 10th Mountain Division” presents dioramas, uniforms, weapons and other artifacts in telling the story of the only ski/mountain division in the US Army.

“War in the Pacific” is an exhibition focusing on the US Navy, while two galleries within the museum offer permanent dioramas of working vehicles and major weapons in World War II settings including a rare “Goliath” remote control vehicle. The museum also features a number of extensive outdoor displays.

Military Museum of Southern New England, at 125 Park Avenue, can be reached by calling 790-9277. Museum admission is $4 for adults; $2 for active duty military members, seniors and children ages 6-12; and free for ages five and under.
