Just Announced: Art Miles Mural Project At Newtown Congregational Church, Thursday
A hands-on mural painting project will be offered at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, this week.
The special event will be Thursday, August 8, from 11 am to 3 pm. Sponsored by The Art Miles Mural Project, and open to the public, it is part of the organization’s “passionate and colorful 12 year movement to promote global peace and harmony through murals.”
This past winter The Art Miles Mural Project presented 14 murals to Newtown that were displayed at the original HealingNewtown Art Space on Queen Street, and later exhibited in Hartford in tribute to Newtown’s community and families. The group is now coming to Newtown to lead a hands-on mural painting event, hosted by HealingNewtown.
AMMP is movement that combines the efforts of children and adults around the world, to promote global peace and harmony through mural art. Each hand and every mural, according to AMMP’s mission statement, aims to create and express a global voice to develop and advocate art rather than violence, cooperation instead of war, and the continuation of life rather than death.
“Mile by mile across countries, borders and oceans, The Art Miles has become the resonating artistic symbol for peace,” the statement continues.
There is no charge to participate, and reservations are not needed.
