HARTFORD —On Tuesday morning, August 6, state officials involved in the investigation into the 12/14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School met to discuss the progress of the state police probe and consider when a public version of the ongoing investigation’s findings would be disclosed.

Mark Ojakian, who is the governor’s chief of staff, met with Stephen J. Sedensky III, who is the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Danbury, and with Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane.

“The Sandy Hook investigation is progressing and involves both state and federal law enforcement agencies,” Mr Sedensky said Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Sedensky added that he expects to issue his public report “in the fall.” He declined to be more specific about the target date for the report’s release.

“The scale of the investigation is such that even a fall release of the…report is well within what would be expected from this type of investigation,” Mr Sedensky added.

The victims’ families have been a priority throughout the investigation and are updated regularly by the state police and the state’s attorney, and will continue to get reports as the investigation proceeds, according to statement from the chief state’s attorney.

Mr Sedensky, who oversees the state’s prosecutorial work at the Danbury Courthouse, said that his involvement in the 12/14 investigation requires a majority of his time at work.

“We’re still working on the investigation,” he said.

Mr Sedensky has said that it is more important that the investigation be done correctly and thoroughly, rather than quickly.

Initially, officials had said that the Sedensky report might be released as early as June.

The probe is focusing on the events of 12/14 in which a 20-year-old gunman using a semiautomatic military-style assault rifle shot his way into Sandy Hook School on Dickinson Drive where he then shot and killed 20 first-graders and six educators before killing himself as police approached.

Before the massacre at the school, the gunman had shot and killed his mother at their Sandy Hook home on Yogananda Street.
