Creates Foundation, Offers Grants
DANBURY â Savings Bank of Danbury has announced the formation of the Savings Bank of Danbury Foundation. The foundation is committed to providing financial grants from $2,500 to $10,000 to nonprofit organizations in cities and towns in the greater Danbury area for education, community and economic development, health and human services, and arts and culture.
âThroughout our 155 years, Savings Bank of Danbury has focused its efforts on service,â said Hal Wibling, president, Savings Bank of Danbury. âIn fact, our mission statement, âWe are about people serving people,â is the measure of our success. We value our role in supporting our neighbors and community with banking products and services. We are also pleased to serve our community with contributions, grants and volunteerism.
âIn 2004, to further our commitment to the community, we have established a not-for-profit charitable foundation, Savings Bank of Danbury Foundation, which will help support community initiatives for years to come. The foundation will help strengthen our communities. We provide grants to organizations that are vital to communitiesâ well-being, growth, and prosperity,â he said.
Cities and towns served are Danbury, Bethel, Brookfield, Newtown, New Milford, New Fairfield, Sherman, Redding, Ridgefield, and Bridgewater. Foundation grants will be administered by a committee consisting of Savings Bank of Danbury corporations and directors.
The foundation is accepting applications for funding from 501(C)(3) nonprofit groups in the greater Danbury area. The foundation places particular focus on funding activities that support education, community and economic development, health and human service, and arts and culture. The grants will range from $2,500 to $10,000 and will be distributed in December.
Applications are being accepted through October 15 and may be obtained at the bankâs 220 Main Street office in Danbury, from its website at www.sbdanbury.com, or by calling Beth Ann Fetzer at 796-7514.
In 2003, the bank contributed more than $150,000 to numerous area nonprofit agencies. In addition, employees also participated in volunteer programs and initiatives ranging from March of Dimes WalkAmerica to United Way Day of Caring.
âWe are proud that our bankâs strong legacy of community involvement continues,â said Mr Wibling. âSavings Bank of Danbury Foundation makes it very clear that we are committed to the people of the towns and cities we serve.â
