Rotary Holds Landscaping Party At ABD House

Newtown Rotary held its annual landscaping meeting at the Ability Beyond Disability (ABD) house  in the Hawleyville area of Newtown.  Since Newtown Rotary decided to adopt this residence, part of what was formerly known as the Datahr Rehabilitation Institute, the members of the local Rotary Club have held Christmas parties, landscaped the grounds each spring, had the driveway paved, and held summer picnics for the six residents occupying the house.

The house in Hawleyville is one of about 40 houses in the greater Danbury area run by the Danbury area rehabilitation institute.  Ability Beyond Disability is located in Brookfield and works with those who are handicapped in an effort to bring them to the point that they can enjoy independent living in one of the many homes such as this one in Hawleyville.

Newtown Rotary members support many projects in their endeavor to improve the quality of life in the community and the world and help to make the world a better place for the next generation.

There comes a time in most people’s lives when they feel that they want to give back to humanity in payment for the many goods things they have received through their lifetime. Anyone who feels they may have reached this point can learn more about Rotary by calling Brian Amey at 426-6605 or attending a Rotary supper meeting, held each Monday at 6 pm at the Fireside Inn.
