Local Scout's Patch Design Selected For Battleship
Local Scoutâs Patch Design Selected For Battleship
Junior Girl Scout Troop 820 members were excited to learn that fellow troop member Christine Beckâs patch design for the Battleship Massachusetts was selected from the Premium Patch Contest.
Over 100 applicants designed patches for the Premium Patch Contest that was held from December 2000 to January 2001 at the Battleship Massachusetts in Fall River, Mass.
Christine was very excited that her patch design had been selected and would be used for other Girl Scouts that participate in the Nautical Nights Overnight camping program at the battleship. In the program the scouts are able to sleep in the bunks and participate in various workshops including knot tying.
âI was excited,â Christine said. âIt was fun.â
Christine, as well as the other 820 Troop members, sketched designs for the patch and had to write a short essay about why they liked the battleship.
âDear Battleship â of course Iâd come back to you,â Christine wrote, âand everyday I see a big boat in ⦠my dreams.â
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are able to participate in the Nautical Nights Overnight Camping program at the battleship at Battleship Cove in Fall River. Christineâs patch will be available for Girl Scout Troops to purchase and put on their uniforms, signifying that they participated in the overnight camping program on the battleship.
Battleship Massachusettsâs employees, former crewmembers, and overnight staff judged the patch entries. Christineâs design shows the battleship as well as Overnight Camping Massachusetts written around the circular patch. A Girl Scout insignia is also on the patch. A Boy Scout patch was also selected.
