Gas Grill Safety Tips
Gas Grill Safety Tips
In view of a recent gas-grill fire which caused heavy property damage at the Rollingwood condominium complex on Federal Road in Brookfield, plus the many telephone calls which the town fire marshalâs office receives on the safe use of gas grills, Fire Marshal Bill Halstead is offering some safety tips on the use of gas grills for outdoor cooking.
Gas grills should be kept at least two to three feet away from combustible objects.
Gas grills should never be used under overhangs, awnings, gazebos, porches, or other covered areas.
Never leave a gas grill unattended while in use. Grease fires can cause property damage and bodily harm.
Do not store or use flammable objects near a gas grill.
If a gas grill has been in storage or has not been used for a while, check the grill for gas leaks and for burner obstructions before using it.
Gas grills should not be used in buildings or in recreational vehicles as a heat source.
If you see, smell, or hear the hissing of gas escaping from the grill or from a liquid propane cylinder, move away from the cylinder; dial 911; and do not attempt to correct the problem yourself.
Gas grill users should read their instructional manuals for grilling safety tips and for information on cleaning and maintaining their grills.
Mr Halstead said practicing fire safety is an important aspect of having a safe and happy summer.
