Free Voice Lessons By YankeeMaid Chorus
TRUMBULL â The YankeeMaid Chorus of Sweet Adelines International is offering a free four-week course on singing four-part a cappella harmony. The chorus will demonstrate how the four different voice parts â tenor, lead, baritone and bass â come together to create a ring known as overtone.
Master director Karen Sweeters will teach techniques for using proper breath control and voice placement to achieve a clear and focused sound, and individual vocal instruction will be available. The importance of vowel pronunciation in creating unity of the sound will also be discussed.
A session on how characterization and choreography are used to enhance the music will also be included. In addition, participants will be given the opportunity to sing with the YankeeMaids in their annual show in November.
The championship YankeeMaid Chorus, celebrating over 35 years of harmony, is a dynamic, spirited group of women from 33 towns throughout greater Fairfield, New Haven and lower Litchfield counties. Under the direction of Karen Sweeters of Norwalk, the chorus is ten-time champions of the Sweet Adelinesâ North Atlantic Region #1 chorus competition.
Classes will begin on Wednesday, September 12, at St Josephâs Manor, 6448 Main Street in Trumbull. Call Teddi Tomsic at 203-925-9233 for more information about these sessions. Find out more about the YankeeMaids by visiting their Web site at www.yankeemaid.org.
