Dentist Joins MedSafe Program

MONROE — The office of Mark Schwartz, DMD, has become one of the first in the area to implement the MedSafe Healthcare Safety Program, a voluntary safety inspection program.

The MedSafe program begins with a thorough review of staff and patient safety procedures; development of a comprehensive infection control, hazard communication, and general safety program; and extensive staff training. Ongoing unannounced safety inspections will be made by MedSafe field auditors.

The MedSafe program stresses adherence to quality care and workplace safety through increased awareness of workplace hazards and infection control measures, including the use and frequent changing of disposable gloves, sterilization of instruments between procedures, proper storage and labeling of all potentially hazardous materials and medical waste, and an ongoing program of safety education.

Dr Schwartz said the MedSafe safety procedures surpass those recommended by the National Centers for Disease Control, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and other leading healthcare authorities.

While this program is among the first implemented in the area, MedSafe provides similar services to more than 1,000 facilities throughout the United States.
