The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host John Forgione presenting an art demonstration on painting a landscape in oil on Wednesday, August 10, at 7:30 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

The demonstration is open to the public and admission is free.

“My desire to paint is driven by a true love of nature and art,” says Forgione. “Formally schooled in the fine arts, and deeply influenced by the French and American Impressionists, I take great satisfaction in recording time, light and form.

“I hope to positively inspire those around me, and paint on. I work both in the studio and en plein air, on location. I use a French easel and bring my equipment into the field, where I typically spend one or two days to complete a painting.

“I work with oil paints, and my en plein air process typically starts with a charcoal sketch on a ‘ground canvas’ ... then progresses to a loose-wash underpainting, then I build in more details using light and dark forms, refine colors and line work, and finally add subtle details as time or focus dictates. Each painting takes on a life of its own.”

Reservations are not taken for SCAN programs but additional information is available at SCANart.org.

“Nellie at Rest” by John Forgione, who will be the next guest artist for The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown.
