State Police Investigate Three Assaults at Garner

State police report three violent incidents at Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road, which houses about 630 male inmates, most of whom have serious mental health disorders.

About 10 am on July 30, state police went to Garner to investigate an incident in which inmate Tyree Davis, 26, allegedly assaulted inmate Tadd Lavallee, 36, injuring Lavallee.

Davis was scheduled to be arraigned in Danbury Superior Court on an assault charge on August 1.

Lavallee is serving a 3½-year sentence on a violation of probation conviction. Davis is serving a four-year sentence on a conviction for risk of injury to a minor.

About 10:30 am on July 29, state police arrested inmate Kenya Brown, 28, on a charge of second-degree assault for allegedly assaulting inmate Alfredo Maldonado, 21, with an electrical plug device. Maldonado was injured in the incident.

Maldonado is being held on $475,000 bail in Garner on a pending charge of first degree sexual assault. Brown is serving a 20-year sentence on a first degree robbery conviction.

Brown was scheduled to be arraigned in court on August 1.

About 5 pm on July 26, state police went to Garner to investigate a complaint concerning an alleged inmate assault of a correction officer. The correction officer was injured in the incident, state police said. The investigation is continuing.
