Kevinâs Community Fundraiser A Success

Kevinâs Community Center with the help of Newtown Car Wash held a successful fundraiser and blood pressure screening last Saturday. In a combined effort the center raised approximately $1,500 from donations, car washing revenue, and from the sale of raffle tickets.
Kevinâs Community Center is a nonprofit organization that provides free health care for residents who are uninsured or underinsured and have limited financial resources. Founded in 2003 by Dr Z. Michael Taweh in memory of his son Kevin, the mission of Kevinâs Community Center, Inc is not only to provide health care to those in need but to protect each patientâs sense of dignity and self-respect.
Newtown Car Wash donated 50 percent of all proceeds of cars washed during the hours of the fundraiser from 8 am to 5 pm to the community center. Raffle tickets were sold for the chance to win a free complete vehicle detail, a six-foot grinder, and other door prizes.
Fundraising coordinator Phyllis Cortese said that the morning was slow due to cloudiness but picked up considerably in the afternoon as the sun came out. âIt was a wonderful community outreach project. We are delighted with the response from those who helped and those who donated. It provided a valuable service to the community as well with the free blood pressure screenings available,â she said.
Volunteers Todd Forkin, Phyllis Cortese, Dr Arunima Mohanty, Rosemarie Cavanaugh, and Carol Marie Amaral gave of their time and talents on Saturday to make the fundraiser successful.
