Oil Demo At Meeting House
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) has invited the internationally known artist Janine Wesselmann to demonstrate in oil during its next meeting.
Ms Wesselmann will talk about her life and work and develop a café scene for the audience on Wednesday, August 10, at 7:30 pm. The meeting and Ms Wesselmanâs program are open to the public and will be held in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown.
Janine Wesselmann is known globally for her parodies of European and American social life. She was the first woman to be accepted into the collection dâArt Modern de la Ville de Paris.
She is represented in the permanent collection of the Columbus Museum of Art; the Kunsthuis van het, Oosten, Netherlands; The Rockefeller Collection, Governorâs Collection, USVI, and the Oshir Collection, Geneva, Switzerland.
Ms Wesselman has painted since the age of six, and in very unusual circumstances. Through revolutions in Third World countries and ambassadorial parties in the capitals of Europe, on remote islands and in African jungles, she has painted a vanishing world of bazaars and fortune tellers, carnivals and cafes, fast disappearing customs and cultures.
Her work of the 9/11 tragedy, called âAmericanâs Heroes,â was used for countless New York charities and served as a banner for commemorative municipal events.
