*Newtown native LUCINDA will be performing an acoustic performance during this weekendâs Sandy Hook Village Farmersâ Market. Her August 6 performance, for which she will be joined by Michael Connolly, will be on the stage at the farmersâ market that takes place in the parking lot off Glen Road in Sandy Hook each Sunday; Lucinda and Michael will be performing from noon to 2 pm, during the operating hours of the market.
âI am excited about this show as I have just moved back to Newtown, and ⦠Michael Connolly grew up and lives in Newtown as well, so it will be a home town event with a lot of old and new friends,â Lucinda mentioned in an email last week.
*King For a Day (KFAD), a new rock band including members of DEEP BANANA BLACKOUT, will be performing throughout southern Connecticut over the next few weeks. The band features Dan Labich on vocals, Benj Lefevre on bass, guitarist Randy Funke and Eric Kalb on drums, and combines an affinity for 70s rock in the style of The Band and CSNY with influences as diverse as Johnny Cash, the Beatles, the Police, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan and The Who.
The first two are this weekend: Saturday, August 5, at Harborview BBQ in Milford, from noon to 2 pm, and then Sunday, August 6, from 2 to 3 pm during SoNo Arts Celebration in Norwalk.
KFAD will also play at the famed Gathering of The Vibes Festival on August 20 in New York.
*The Sweetport Music Festival and Summer Sounds of the World 2006 will continue next weekend with a performance by the incomparable ODETTA, who I saw a few years ago at Ridgefield Playhouse and was wowed by. And thatâs not easy. I donât impress easily.
Odetta will be joined by The Deon Kipping New Covenant Gospel Ensemble for a 6 pm concert on Friday, August 11, at McLevy Green.
Admission is free, and free parking is also available. Call 203-367-7917 or visit BlackRockArtCenter.com for details, including how to take advantage of nearby free parking.
*Also next weekend, Woodbury Ski Area will host its 34th Annual Reggae Festival. The festival will be held on the grounds of the ski area, at 785 Washington Road (Route 47) in Woodbury, on Saturday and Sunday, August 12-13. Confirmed bands include RAS KIMONI & THE MASSIC DREAD BAND, EDI OKRI & THE AFROCENTRIX, DYNAMIC STEW and THE PETE SCHEIPS BAND.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the gate. A skateboard contest will be held on Saturday beginning at 3. Vendors, including those with plenty of refreshments for whatâs sure to be a pair of very hot days, will be on hand both days.
For additional information or to reserve tickets call 203-263-2203 or visit WoodburySkiArea.com.
Until next week Iâll be seeing you... on the road.
