Legendary Vocalist At Sweetport Music Festival

BRIDGEPORT — The Sweetport Music Festival and Summer Sounds of the World 2006 series will continue on Friday, August 11, at 6 pm, at McLevy Green in downtown Bridgeport with the world-famous Odetta.

Over the course of the last half-century, Odetta has become one of the most celebrated figures in music. She has sung for American Presidents, walked arm-in-arm with great leaders of the Civil Rights movement, and served as an inspiration to several generations of musicians, most famously Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin.

The concert will feature the incomparable vocalist performing songs of inspiration and freedom including a few she has made famous: “Gonna Let It Shine/This Little Light of Mine,” “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands” and “Kumbaya.”

The concert will open with the new gospel sounds of Deon Kipping & New Covenant Gospel Ensemble.
