Rachel L. Stern, daughter of Michael and Karen Stern of Newtown, has been named to the Deanâs List for the spring semester at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Rachel, a junior economics major, studied in multiple countries in fall 2005 with the International Honors Program.
Sean M. Zadrovitz, son of John and Sheri Zadrovitz formerly of Newtown, graduated from Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Fla. Sean was a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Basketball Team, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Sean will attend the University of Central Florida, Orlando, in August.
Katie Benson, NHS Class of 2003, has been named to the Deanâs List for the spring quarter at Rochester (NY) Institute of Technology. Katie, daughter of Carol Benson of Sandy Hook and the late Gary Benson, is a third year student in RITâs School of Print Media studying graphic media.
Kristin Ryan, daughter of Patricia and Jack Ryan of Sandy Hook, is a Deanâs Award recipient for the spring semester at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Kristin, NHS Class of 2003, is studying Russian and Music. Kristin is a member and past director of the Dischords, an a cappella group at Colgate. She is currently sailing the Pacific in a Semester at Sea program.
Matthew J. Klaus, son of Ellen Klaus of Newtown and the late Bernhard F. Klaus, graduated cum laude from American University, Washington, D.C., earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. Matthew was selected to be the student speaker at the AU College of the Arts and Sciences Commencement exercises. He was the recipient of the Charles W. Van Way Student Achievement Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Department of Computer Science. Matthew was inducted into the AU chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the International Computer Science Honor Society.
Jessica Yakush, daughter of Corinne and William Yakush of Newtown, has been named to the Deanâs List at Villanova University in Pennsylvania for the fall and spring semesters. Jessica, NHS Class of 2005, is a biology major.
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University announces Alexandra Gellert and Allison Klein have been named to the Deanâs List for the spring semester. Alexandra is a senior majoring in public relations. Allison is a sophomore also majoring in public relations.

Kali Alise Santarpia, daughter of Dr Anita R. Holtz and stepdaughter of Mr David C. Dickerson of Sandy Hook, graduated from the Honors College of Towson University, Towson, Md., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Gerontology and Psychology. Kaliâs many achievements include Honors College Scholar, Undergraduate Outstanding Gerontology Award, election to Sigma Phi Omega, the National Gerontology Academic Honor and Professional Society, and Deanâs List for all semesters. Kali, NHS Class of 2002, received Newtown Scholarship Association awards, and was the 2002 Junior Volunteer of the Year at Ashlar of Newtown.
