It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Anthony Brimmer, Jr who died peacefully on August 2, 2024, in Danbury.

Bill was the beloved son of the late William A. Brimmer and Margaret (Emmett) Brimmer. He was born on October 31, 1949, in Salem, Mass. Bill grew up in Hartford and attended Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford, where he met his loving wife Barbara (Curry) Brimmer, with whom he happily celebrated 54 years of marriage. Bill served in the US Army Reserves and was a member of the American Legion.

Bill had a great zest for musical theatre and belonged to the Mark Twain Masquers in West Hartford. He started his career in sales and marketing with Young’s Drug Products and Carter Wallace and after four years in Washington, D.C., moved to his happiest home of all, Newtown.

Bill expanded his career into the field of Human Resources with Manchester-Manpower, Right Management and currently Learning Dynamics of Wallingford. He established his company Hattertown Consultants 12 years ago. As a member of the Newtown Savings Bank Board of Directors, he entered local banking.

Bill served on the Newtown Board of Selectmen for 10 years and was active politically. More recently Bill served as president of The Newtown Meeting House. He loved his time serving Newtown as a Justice of the Peace and was a long-time member of the Benvenuto Cellini Book Society and the Men’s Literary and Social Club of Newtown Street. Bill enjoyed lunch time with the Romeos in Newtown. He was a very outgoing man and treasured his many friends. He will be remembered for his warm smile, laughter and generous spirit.

He was a proud alumnus of Western CT State University where he earned his Bachelor's in English and master’s in history.

Bill leaves his loving daughter Erin and Matthew Burrows of Rocky Hill and his loving son Matthew Brimmer of Danbury. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren Sarah Flynn of Newtown; Nathaniel, Emma and Lauren Burrows of Rocky Hill; and Ellie Brimmer of Woburn, Mass. Most sadly, Bill was recently predeceased by his daughter Kelley Brimmer Flynn and brother Thomas Brimmer.

As the oldest of 11 children, Bill also leaves Brian and Pam Brimmer of Preston, Conn.; Bruce and Connie Brimmer of Glens Falls, N.Y.; Deborah Catolane of Bolton, Conn.; Barry and Pam Brimmer of Davenport, Fla.; Bradford and Annemarie Brimmer of Windsor, Conn.;, Margaret Rollins of Garland, Me.; Susan Gabriel of Simsbury, Conn.; Timothy and Amy Brimmer of Gansevoort, N.Y.; and Robert Brimmer of Garland, Me.; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill’s family would like to thank the caring staff in ICU and Step-Down units at Danbury Hospital.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday August 6, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road in Newtown, at 11 am Wednesday, August 7.

Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery Rocky Hill will be private.
