Children’s Programs

*Reading Buddies: Independent readers can practice reading aloud with a young adult buddy for 20-minute sessions Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 5 to 7:30 pm and Saturday from 1 to 4:30 pm.

*Artist Katie Stevenson will provide the backdrop and all of the natural materials you need to create your own unique woodland house. For ages 6–9. A $5 material fee is due on the day of the program, Monday, August 6, 3:30 to 4:30.

*PJ Time: Through Tuesday, August 14, between 6:30 and 7:15 pm, drop in for songs, stories, a puppet show and merriment for ages 3–7. The puppet show on August 7 is “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”; and on August 14 is “The Wizard’s Sneeze.” PJs are encouraged.

*Beyond Candy Land: On Thursday, August 9, 2:30 to 4:30, discover board games from around the world with educator and board game enthusiast Eric Paradis, who will bring a sampling of his collection for children ages 5–9. Parents should remain with their children during the program. Register online.

*On Saturday, August 18, at 3 pm, young actors, after a weeklong theater class under the guidance of Twyla Hafermann-Kessler, will present their unique interpretation of Maurice’s Sendak’s One Was Johnny at the End of the Summer Celebration. Refreshments will be served following the performance. For ages 4 and up.

*Summer reading officially ends on Saturday, August 18. It is not too late for children ages 4 through grade 5 to sign up for the summer reading program. All books should be recorded by August 18 to be eligible for program incentives.

YA Programs

*Join local teen poet Rebecca Antonaccio, who will be reading from her published books of poetry on Monday, August 6, from 6:30 to 8 pm, for Teen Open Mic Night. All are welcome to come and share their own poetry and music. Ages 12 and up; free, no registration necessary.

*Outside-The-Box Board Games: Sign up or drop in and join game collector Eric Paradis for an afternoon of challenging board games for Teens & ‘Tweens in rising grades 5 and up (age 10+) on Tuesday, August 7, from 1 to 4 pm. These are really unique and fun games that you do not see every day. Bring your friends and test your skill.

*Unwind your imagination with duct tape on Tuesday, August 14, from 2 to 3:30 pm. Artist and crafter Katie Stevenson will lead a workshop to make all kinds of things out of duct tape, from wallets to sandals to iPod holders. To make a tote bag, bring a clean, empty plastic pet food bag or similar. Limited to 15 young people in rising grades 6–12. The supply fee of $6 is payable at program.

Adult and Family Programs

*Henna Body Art for Adults: On Thursday, August 23, at 6 pm, in the meeting room, Parul Patel will provide materials and demonstrate the art of Medhni all-natural henna temporary tattoos using templates and natural henna cones to make simple traditional designs. A $5 materials fee is payable at the program. Limited to 15 participants.

*Two Workshops to Boost Your Job Search: “Tune Up Your Resume for Fall,” Tuesday, September 4, at 7 pm; and “Getting the Most Out of LinkedIn,” Tuesday, September 18, at 7 pm.

Both workshops are free and taught by Bill Florin, a certified professional resume writer. Call the library to register.

*An M&M Production of Nora and Delia Ephron’s adaptation of Love, Loss, and What I Wore on Sunday, will be on September 23, at 2 pm. The program is free but space is limited; register online.

 Programs For Adults

*Daytime Book Group: Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald will be discussed on Monday, August 13, at 1 pm; Nonfiction Book Group: River of Doubt by Candice Millard on Tuesday, September 11, at 1 pm; and Evening Book Group: Fall of Giants by Ken Follett on Thursday, September 20, at 7:30 pm.
