Cavalcade Horse Trainer & Entertainer Arriving August 5

Horse trainer, equine entertainer and stuntman Tommie Turvey will arrive in Newtown on Sunday, August 5, and the public is invited to greet him at 2 pm at Edmond Town Hall.

“He will be rolling into town and I would like the people of Newtown to be there to wave to his entourage as they come through,” said resident Anne M. Vogel, who is co-coordinating a special fundraiser with fellow resident Mary Fellows.

Mr Turvey’s visit will include his headline show at the upcoming cavalcade the following weekend at Fairfield Hills.

Residents with an agricultural, equestrian, or arts and crafts bent are in for a first-of-its-kind treat at the 2GHG Commandant’s Cavalcade, a daylong family event being planned for Saturday, August 11. The event will include music, food, a vendors market, entertainment and more to celebrate and raise funds supporting the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG). The horse guard is an active cavalry unit serving the governor and the state.

The 2GHG Commandant’s Cavalcade 2012 is the “first annual equine and agricultural event hosted by horse guard as a way of celebrating the rich history of Connecticut’s Cavalry while raising much-needed funds to continue their community mission,” according to organizers. Approximately 100 crafters, agriculture and gift merchants, farmers, equestrian centers, farm and animal breeders, and vendors are expected to participate in the marketplace, which will run from 11 am to 5 pm. Food and live music will also be offered during the afternoon.

Performances by Mr Turvey, and others, will run from 6 to 8 pm.

A professional stuntman and trainer, Mr Turvey travels and performs with his horses. According to his website (TommieTurvey.com), Mr Turvey and his sidekick Poker Joe travel the world performing their signature acts. In addition to being a sought-after entertainer in the industry, he is in high demand as a clinician for his training ideals. He has worked with William Shatner, Linda and Pat Parelli, Clinton Anderson, and John Lyons, and has been a featured performer at Disney in Paris, France; Medieval Times and Arabian Nights in Orlando, Fla., and toured with the Royal Hannaford Circus.

A professional stuntman and trainer, he has appeared with his horses in Jonah Hex, AMC’s The Walking Dead, The Dark Knight and others.

There is no admission during the marketplace session of the August 11 Cavalcade. Tickets for the evening performances are $28, $23 for seniors citizens and ages 12 and under, and $18 for veterans.
