61st Bridgewater Country Fair Opens August 17

BRIDGEWATER â The 61st Bridgewater Country Fair will return to the Route 133 fairgrounds Friday through Sunday, August 17â19.

Gates will be open from 4 to 11 pm on Friday, 8 am until 11 pm on Saturday, and 8 am until 7 pm Sunday. Admission is $8, $5 for senior citizens on Saturday and Sunday, and free for ages 12 and under. Three-day passes are available for $16.

The event is presented by and serves as a fundraiser for Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department.

With the exception of guide dogs and pet parade entrants, please note that no pets are allowed on the fairgrounds.

The Firemenâs Parade will step off on Friday at 6:45. The fair will also host the 3rd Annual Firemenâs Muster on Saturday beginning at 11 am.

New this year is Dunking For Dollars, a dunking booth sponsored by the fire companyâs womenâs auxiliary; three new Special Occasion Classes within the Flower Exhibits; local competition in the Litchfield County of Fairs Mini Scarecrow Competition; and a King Arthur Flour Baking Contest, in which competitors prepare their favorite frosted cupcake recipe using King Arthur flour as an ingredient.

Entertainment will include performances by Flashback on Friday; Smokinâ Joe West and Creative Forse, Chad Burdick, and Jason Michael Caroll on Saturday; and Jessie Mayer, and Buck Edwards & The Buckshots on Sunday.

Exhibits offered all weekend will include vegetable, eggs, and canning, fruit and flower shows, baking, hobbies, needlework, art and photo, cattle and poultry displays, wool and shearing, industrial and agricultural. There commercial tents, food and refreshment stands, and carnival rides for all ages.

A childrenâs pet parade will open the bandstand stage at 9:30 Saturday morning, followed by a pedal tractor pull for ages 10 and under (which will be offered again on Sunday at 11); children and their pets must be registered in advance (walk-ins are no longer allowed). Tractor Mac will have a number of shows on the bandstand each day.

Tickets for this yearâs raffle remain $5 each. This yearâs top prize is a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox all-wheel drive crossover. Five additional prizes are also offered. The drawing will be on Monday, August 22, at 6 pm, at Bridgewater Fire House. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Why Gun Violence Is Higher In The US

I want to clarify something that was not clear in my letter. Newtown DOES have an affordable housing plan, put together with the aid of the Council of Governments (COG) in 2022 and approved by the LC that year. The strategies in that plan are to "encourage", "support", "explore", "promote" various aspects of state and local affordable housing programs. Those strategies are largely repeated in the Housing Chapter of the Plan of Conservation and Development being finalized now. Newtown needs to measure its performance against those strategies and refine them to reflect the current situation and evaluate whether we are eligible for a moratorium on 8-30(g) projects if we have met the criteria. It's a question of being more specific and more rigorous in what we as a community would like to see to address this real and serious need, rather than to be on our heels when a developer proposes a project on their terms. An independent look outside the application process would be best for that. Thank you. Peter.

I on Glover Ave. walk my two Labs every morning and evening. Drivers are constantly cutting me off at the shopping center entrance and other driveways. There is no understanding of pedestrians rights. Drives make left turns onto Queen when its forbidden. Most cars cruse right thru the crosswalks without stopping for pedestrians. The Police have not issued one citation nor even a warming for crosswalk violations. The situation is out of control and now a loved resident, Pete, and a pet, Coby have been killed. Time for a plan. The problem is not Intersections, nor traffic, the problem 98s drivers and lack of enforcement. The plan need to create a culture that drivers obey speed limits and honor pedestrians right of ways. Isn't that the job of the Police Department and The Police Commission, to protect Newtowns citizens. This is a call to action.
