Courses For ESL Instructors

WATERBURY — Naugatuck Valley Community College has added the course TESOL Methodology to its schedule of offerings this fall. The three-credit course meets the Connecticut requirements for Adult Education Certification in English as a Second Language as well as K-12 Cross Endorsement in ESL.

The TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course introduces students to theories of second language learning and demonstrates practiced application of these theories. An understanding of ESL pedagogy will be enhanced through readings, discussion, observation of ESL classes, development and presentation of lessons, review of teaching materials, and completion of a research paper. The prerequisite is a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or permission from the department chairperson or instructor. The cost is $273. The fall semester begins on September 5 and ends December 18.
