Reed Open House Allowed Students To Test Their Lockers
Reed Open House Allowed Students To Test Their Lockers

Returning Reed Intermediate School student Chris Lafky waited inside the schoolâs doors on Wednesday, July 22, to welcome students who will be new to the Trades Lane school this fall. Chris was one of the student ambassadors during Reed Intermediateâs most recent open house.
The day was held to allow incoming students the chance to test their combination locked lockers, a feature that will be new to students when they reach Reed in the fall if they have gone through the Newtown school system, or transferred from another school district without combination locked lockers.
On Wednesday, Chris said he was âjust telling them what to do and where to go.â If asked, he also told visitors that his first year at the school was fun.
Lockers were set up in the back of the school from the entrance for incoming students, and, just after the start of the open house, Cameron Mitchell, Allie Indelicato and Jessica Cruz were trying out the lockers for themselves.
The lockers were set up with directions and the combination to unlock them posted on the locker so students could try the technique of opening a locker.
Another open house was held July 29 and two more open houses are scheduled for August 5 and August 12. The open house on Wednesday, August 5, will have the school open from 9 am until noon, and on Wednesday, August 12, the school will be open from 5 until 7 pm.
Unlocking Combination Lockers
First, set the lock to zero.
Next, turn the lock to the right two times past zero to the first number in the combination, which should be provided for students before they are attempting to open their lockers.
Then turn the lock left and go past the first number in the combination to stop on the second number in the combination. It is important to go past the first number before stopping on the second number, otherwise the combination will not work.
Finally, turn the lock right and stop at the third number in the combination. The lock should open for the student when they pull up on the handle.
Staff and faculty are also available to help students with lockers in the school in the event of confusion.
