Annual Fair At Fairfield County Extension Center
BETHEL â The 7th Annual Gardening Fair hosted by the UConn Fairfield County Master Gardener Program and the Connecticut Master Gardener Association will be held at the Fairfield County Extension Center on Saturday, August 15, from 12:30 to 5 pm.
The free day of events will include presentations by master and advanced master gardeners, information booths, a perennial walking tour, a plant raffle, free soil testing, and the chance to learn about 4-H programs.
Claudette Amen will present âDesigning Troughs and Containersâ from 12:45 to 1:30 pm, a lesson in designing an alpine trough garden. At 1:45 to 2:30 pm, join Donna Katsuranis for âDesigning With Native Plants.â
From 3:15 to 4 pm, Laura Stabell will present âDesigning With Water In The Garden.â Ms Stabell will talk about responsible usage and treatment of water in the environment. Lorraine Ballato will discuss âDesigning With Shrubs: The Backbone Of The Gardenâ from 4:15 to 5 pm.
Ms Amen and Ms Stabell are master gardeners. Ms Ballato and Ms Katsuranis are advanced master gardeners.
Join Fran Litwin, advanced master gardener, for a short Perennial Walk, 2:30 to 3:15, highlighting the property at 67 Stony Hill Road.
Information booth topics will include low toxic products for the garden, turf, and invasives. Visit canr.uconn.edu/plsci/stlab-2b.htm to find out how to properly collect a soil sample, and have the pH tested.
Experts will be on hand to answer questions about growing vegetables and herbs, and gently used gardening book and natural history books will for sale at a cost of $1 to $5.
