New Mom And Dads Club

TRUMBULL — New parents can learn how to tell if their baby is sick, how to interpret their child’s crying, when to start childproofing their home, and other helpful information as members of Bridgeport Hospital’s New Moms and Dads Club.

“Babies don’t come with an owner’s manual, and parents may need a place to turn for advice,” said Denise Walsh, RN, clinical services manager of the Bridgeport Hospital Women’s Care Center. “The New Moms and Dads Club helps answer questions about being a brand new parent.”

A $35 per couple membership fee covers as many meetings as parents wish to attend, even if they want to hear about the same topic more than once. A reference binder is provided, along with healthy snacks and beverages. Families are invited to bring their own lunches. For information, call 203-384-3510.

The club meets 11 am to 1 pm every Tuesday at the Medical Arts Center, 15 Corporate Drive, Trumbull. One of eight rotating topics are presented by an expert each week. The topics are Medical Care for the Newborn; Baby Nutrition and Growth; Appropriate Play; Safety; Exercise/Nutrition for Mom; New Parent Stress; Taking Care of Mom; and Families with Special Needs.

Bridgeport Hospital provides comprehensive care for pregnant and new mothers, and their babies. Services include genetic counseling; an antenatal testing unit; high-risk pregnancy expertise; childbirth preparation classes and tours; 24-hour obstetric anesthesia services; and, if needed, a Level III (highest level) newborn intensive care unit.
