NEW MILFORD â The Newtown U14 traveling softball team continued to fill its summer with success. A couple weeks after finishing second in the Babe Ruth State Tournament in Hamden, and amidst amassing an impressive 14-4 overall record, the Hawks captured the New Milford Tournament championship.
Convincing wins over Norwalk, Danbury, Stamford and New Milford (by a count of 89-20, all told) earned the Hawks the title in the round-robin tournament.
In an interesting concept, each team â after each game â selected a Most Valuable Player from the other team. In that vein, Lauren Cascia, Christina Wolf and Krystal Ferris (twice) were all named MVPs.
Ferris belted a pair of mammoth home runs during the tournament.
The Hawks then voted on their own awards and presented Kaitlyn Fenton with the Hustle Award and Becca Narel, who pitched all four games, with the Team MVP. The Hawks are 14-4 overall and 10-4 in the Central Valley Fastpitch League (CVFL), which entered its playoffs this week.
The Hawks were powered by Cascia, Ashley Ferris, Wolf, Jessica Nicolosi, Narel, Emily Nezvesky, Cat Williams, Sarah Holroyd, Christie Caruso, Amie Walston, Emily Blewitt, Krystal Ferris, Fenton, and Stacey Gordon. The team is coached by Rich Narel and Lin Hertberg.
