The Nines had captured the Danbury Tournament title earlier in the summer.
With convincing wins over Southbury, New Milford, Bethwood, Bethel and Redding (a count of 20-3 in that one), the Nines were propelled in the quarter-finals. Joe Fedak and Michael Coates combined for a one-hitter, with 12 strikeouts, in a 3-0 win. In the semi-finals, Coates and Fedak got together again and struck out seven in leading Newtown past Danbury, 5-3. Ralph Sergiovanni and Jeff DiNicola both had two hits in the win.
In the finals, timely hits by Tyler Edwards, Kyle Kromberg, Michael Coates and Ryan Cahalane led Newtown past New Milford. Sergiovanni and Fedak nailed down the win on the mound.
The Nines finished the summer season with a 17-3 record. Sergiovanni batted .510 for the summer while George Zaruba (.470), Jeff Spencer (.400), Keith McGrath (.390), Coactes (.390) and Fedak (.380) all hit the ball well.
