Police said that during the week of July 22, they received a complaint about a man sitting in a parked sedan at the Sand Hill Plaza parking lot at 228 South Main Street who was performing a lewd act as a female shopper walked by the vehicle.

Consequently, police began an investigation into the problem and conducted surveillance in the plaza parking lot, utilizing a female police officer as a decoy, police spokesman Lieutenant Aaron Bahamonde said.

At about noon on July 30, Adrian Sime, 27, of Bethel was observed by police performing a lewd act in the driver’s seat of his 2018 Honda Accord.

Sime was then taken into custody by detectives without further incident. Police arrested Sime on charges of indecent exposure and possession of marijuana. Public indecency is a Class B misdemeanor. After arrest processing, police released Sime for an August 13 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Lt Bahamonde said police expect that more charges will be lodged against Sime soon in connection with the initial incident.

“It’s pretty sick and disgusting that this individual felt he could victimize innocent women who were minding their business shopping and have to be confronted by this behavior,” Lt Bahamonde said. “When Sime was told he was going to be arrested, he said he could do what he wants in his own car, but was quickly informed not when your car is in the public view. Sime promised the arresting officers he would not do it again, now that he knows,” the lieutenant added.
