Students Develop

Their Artistic Talents

The Young Artist Workshop of Middlebury recently offered a weeklong, half or all-day Art Camp at Wesley Learning Center, July 12–16. The mixed media camp was offered on a semiprivate basis (eight-student maximum) and featured Middlebury artist Sue Healey. Ms Healey worked with the children on acrylic portraits and the finer points of portraiture. Sue Hicks of Southbury offered students the opportunity to learn calligraphy using calligraphy markers, cartridge pens, and pen and ink. Elaine Breitling of Newtown also showed the students the fine art of “Scherensnitte” (paper cutting).

Young Artist Workshop manager and teacher Julie Webster Cavanaugh even had the opportunity to teach students about painting and drawing landscapes with a wide variety of media, including sculpting a favorite animal with clay.

The next Young Artist Workshop will be held August 16–20 at Wesley Learning Center. After-school classes are offered from September through June. For more information, contact Ms Cavanaugh at 203-598-0344.
