To Improve ETH Theatre
The Newtown Lions Club has formed a committee to lead a fundraising drive during the townâs tercentennial year to improve the seating in the Edmond Town Hall Theatre.
The plan is to replace the seats on the main floor and refurbish the seats in the balcony. The main floor will be cleaned and resurfaced. The estimated cost of this work is approximately $165,000. Edmond Town Hall has already received donations of $12,300.
The Newtown Lions Club plans to donate the $4,200 profit from the 2004 Great Pootatuck Duck Race toward this effort. The Town Hall Seats Committee will lead an effort to raise the rest of the money by the end of 2005.
âWe plan to make this a high profile effort during the next year and one half,â said Lions Club member Gordon Mounts. âWe will lead efforts to raise the needed money. We are asking residents of Newtown to enthusiastically support this project. We have a wonderful landmark in the center of Newtown that we can all enjoy. It would be nice to enjoy it in comfort.â
The members of the committee are Gordon Williams, chairman; Dick Kovacs, treasurer, Tom Mahoney, Town Hall building administrator; Bill Denlinger; Jason Hsu, Evan Pitkoff, and Gordon Mounts, publicity.
