Christ The King Bible School

Brings Families Together

Christ the King Lutheran Church held its Summer Evening Vacation Bible School from July 11 through July 15 with the theme, “Construction, Inc, In the Name of Christ.”

This year, the congregation’s educational leadership decided that using an evening format was the best way to make the vacation bible school (VBS) available for the whole family. Classes for both children and adults centered on the theme of being “built up” in the Christian faith, incorporating biblical verses that underscored the “construction” message.

Coordinated by VBS Director Rebecca Cicarelli, the sessions included a group lesson, individual class meetings, craft activities, and a snack time. Kelly Burger, director of the church’s Sunday School Singers, led the music sequence for the week.

Part of the week’s outreach activities included collecting funds for a Lutheran elementary school program in Haiti and gathering toiletries and snack items to be sent to the US military forces currently stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The first day of activities included the traditional “opening day” barbeque; the final evening culminated with a special awards ceremony held in the church sanctuary. The VBS program involved students from Newtown and a number of area communities.

“The Summer Evening Vacation Bible School is a great opportunity for families to be involved in faith-related activities together,” said church pastor, the Rev Gregory Wismar. Craft and teaching items from the week will be on display in the church’s Fellowship Hall until Sunday School opens on September 12.
