Eighth Annual Newtown Arts Festival Returning To Fairfield Hills September 20-21
Newtown resident Paula Brinkman has created the signature art for the Eighth Annual Newtown Arts Festival, set for September 21-22 at Fairfield Hills.
For years, Ms Brinkman has painted a new heart in the same place in Fairfield Hills each day before she began her job at Trinity Day School. Then she takes a picture of the heart.
One of the hundreds of hearts Paula has created throughout the years has been selected as the design for this year’s arts festival. It will be featured on festival T-shirts and posters.
The festival itself will be presented on the playing fields at the corner of Trades Lane and DG Beers Boulevard, 11 am to 5 pm each day.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 ages 5-12, and free ages 4 and under, all payable at the gate. Cash, credit, and debit cards will be accepted.
Food trucks and a Wine & Beer Garden will be returning, as will more than 100 artisans showcasing their wares.
Live music will be featured both days. The organizers behind Flagpole Barn Concerts continue to work on this year’s music offerings.
Returning to the festival this year will be “The Art of Science.” Saturday’s theme will be light, including phone photography; staff from Everwonder Children’s Museum will lead workshops on Sunday.
The Art of Farming will include designing gardens and kitchen gardens.
Coming back are the dance tent, with free performances, demonstrations of painting with watercolor by SCAN artists, and the chance to paint in acrylics.
The Make & Take Tent will also return, with two sessions of the Cardboard University, as well as Bottles of Hope and gelli printing.
The Wool Crafters will make their debut at this year’s festival with their own Fiber Tent.
All workshops are included with festival admission.
