Joan Mary Gruce, 72, of Trumbull died July 28 at St Vincent’s Medical Center. She was born in Southport, and was the daughter of the late Theresa and Michael Gruce.

Her son Geoffrey Gruce and his wife Jennifer of Pennsylvania; four brothers, James Gruce of Newtown, David Gruce of Monroe, John Gruce of Davidson, N.C., and William Gruce of Derby; one sister, Carol Bolin of Trumbull; two grandchildren, Mia and Cameron; and many nieces and nephews survive Ms Gruce. In addition to her parents, her brother, Michael Gruce, predeceased her.

She graduated from the University of Bridgeport. She was the department administrator for Trumbull Planning and Zoning for many years.

Ms Gruce was an avid dancer in her earlier years, participating in many local ballet clubs. She was also a past member of the Connecticut Ballet. She loved cheering on her favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was known for her antique doll collection.

Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services Thursday, July 30, at 7 pm, at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will be private. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4 pm until the time of service.
