Wolf Pack Wins Again, To Host Waterford Tonight
Newtown’s 13-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team, the Wolf Pack, remains alive in the New England Regional Tournament, which it is hosting. The Wolf Pack won its second straight game and will be at home tonight, Tuesday, July 29, at 7, to take on Waterford. The Wolf Pack finds itself in another must-win game in this double-elimination tournament. All of the action is at High Meadow Field on the campus of Fairfield Hills.
The Wolf Pack defeated Arlington, the Eastern Massachusetts representative, 4-3 on Monday and Waterford blanked Portsmouth, N.H., 10-0 to stay alive in loser’s bracket contests.
The winner of the Wolf Pack-Waterford game will take on the loser of the two remaining winner’s bracket squads — Maine and Western Massachusetts, teams that are scheduled to play at 4 pm on July 29 — on Wednesday, July 30, at 6 pm. The winner of that contest advances to the championship round the next day.
Newtown, after falling 5-3 to the New Hampshire team in the first round, on July 26, defeated Vermont 8-7 the next day.
