The Civil War Revisited,
August 13â14 At Three Rivers Park
WOODBURY â Step back in time to the 1860s, hear the sounds of battle, the roar of cannons as Union and Confederate troops clash again.
Building on two successful events, the 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery and the Western Connecticut Convention and Visitors Bureau will once again host a Civil War-Living History event on Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14, at Three Rivers Park.
Visitors to the park will experience life as it was during âThe War Between the States.â Among the members of the 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery reenactors unit is Victor Scalora of Newtown.
Gates open at 8:30 am each day, and battles are scheduled to begin at 2:30 on Saturday and 1:30 on Sunday (subject to change). The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard will appear for the âOn To Richmondâ event on Sunday at 10:15 am. Members will perform a demonstration and also do a meet and greet.
Visitors can stroll through the military camps and the civilian town of Unity, speak with reenactors as they drill and go about their day, and perhaps encounter some well-known personalities.
Well versed speakers and authors will be on site both days (including presentations on âToys From The Attic: The Era of No Batteriesâ), live music of the period will be performed, and treats from food vendors will also be offered. Shopping will be available along Sutlers Row. Confirmed vendors, as of July 26, include Big Bear Trading Company, Blanket Brigade, JR Robinson Mercantile, Bruno Brothers Finest Kettle, Flap Jacks Sutlery, Tom Hooker Hanford, Les Touches Finales, Lilac Garden Soaps & Candles, Polite Society Tea Room, The Silver Beam Photography, and Top Hats Sutlery.
In addition, families can learn about the American Civil War by taking part in a scavenger hunt. Special demonstrations throughout the weekend will include artillery firing, battlefield medicine and surgery, period toys and games, and military drills.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 students and seniors, and $4 for ages 5â10. Children ages 4 and under will be admitted for free. Handicapped parking will be available, and free parking and shuttle buses will be available from Mitchell School on nearby School Street.
