Izaak DeJong

Always The Gentleman

Izaak “Jack” DeJong, formerly of Middletown, N.J., died July 23, at the Newtown home of his son Leendert and daughter-in-law Maryellen, while under Hospice care. The love of his life, his wife Agnes, passed away on Christmas Eve, 2010. He was born in Rotterdam, Holland, May 18, 1915.

He leaves fond memories for his son and daughter-in-law; two grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends to enjoy. His parents Leendert and Tryntja; a brother and a sister; and a son, Richard, predeceased Mr DeJong.

Mr DeJong spent his early professional career with Royal Dutch Shell living in both Holland and Curacao. He moved to the United States to a new career with Lily Tulip Cup Corporation/Owens Illinois located in College Point, N.Y., and later in Holmdel, N.J.

He sacrificed daily for his family. Family was always his number one interest.

The DeJongs were avid square dancers and were very fond of the friendships they had through local senior groups. Bowling, camping, and travel also rounded out their senior years. He enjoyed gardening, building birdhouses, and pursued many other interests.

Mr DeJong would want his friends to know how appreciative he was of their support. At the close of life, Naty and Hugo provided him with a very special type of nursing care. He was blessed to have them for his health care and their love.

A mass was scheduled for Thursday, July 28, at St James Catholic Church of Red Bank, N.J., at noon, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown, N.J.

A donation to your favorite charity in the memory of Mr DeJong would be most appreciated by his family. For online condolences visit www.johnedayfuneralhome.com.
