Richard F. Farkas, Sr, 75, of Key West, Fla., a former resident of Newtown, died July 16. He was born to Marion and John Farkas of Bridgeport, December 26, 1938.

He graduated from Central High School in 1956, immediately joining the United States Navy, where he served four years, after which he resided and was active in the Newtown community.

He was the vice president of Hamilton Standard of Stamford when he decided to follow his dream and moved his wife and children to Key West, in 1971.  He owned a charter boat at Geiger Key Marina until he moved the We Five to Seaside Marina, where he operated a lucrative business until 1982.

He was director of facilities at DePoo Hospital and Lower Keys Medical Center when he retired, 12 years ago.

He was an active member of the Lions Club and many organizations in the Key West Community. He followed his adventurous heart and became a traveling man with many friends and hobbies. Family was his first love and fishing was second.

He was an Alaskan gold miner, Arizona meteor hunter, and an avid fisherman in Santa Rosalia, Mexico, “The Cove,” where he lived with Dora Gonzalez, until he suffered a severe stroke.  He fought a courageous battle in the last weeks of his life and was surrounded by loved ones when he passed away.

His family prays for God to bless him and grant him peace as he travels into his next adventure.

His children and spouses Beverly June and Dana Gregory, Sandra Lynn and Alan Averette, and Richard F. Farkas, Jr, and Shauna; wife, Beverly M. Farkas; and sister Susan Chouinard and husband, Bob, survive Mr Farkas, as do many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved him so very much.

A memorial service will take place at a later date.
