Occupation: Iâm an EMT for the city of Danbury with DHCA-EMT. I volunteer with Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps [NVAC] and am on their executive board. I was honored to be named EMT-B of the Year this spring. Iâm a lifeguard instructor and a CPR instructor. I help teach the MRT [Medical Response Technician] course at NVAC and the EMT [Emergency Medical Technician] course at Danbury Hospital and at NVAC. Iâm also a water safety instructor; I like to help people.
Family: I have my parents, Jan and Buzz, and a younger sister, who is 20 and who is living out in California. Her name is Heather. My brother, Brett, is 16 years old.
Pets: I donât have any pets right now. I used to have a kitty, but she passed away last year.
How long have you lived in Newtown? I have lived here ten years now. I was in eighth grade when we moved here from California.
What do you like to do in your free time? I donât really have a lot of free time, but I usually try to spend as much time as I can with my friends and family. We do very random things, from just sitting around talking to traveling around the area. I do softball, too, and I used to coach. I donât like to sit still.
Do you have a favorite book? Either Tuesdays With Morrie or The Five People You Meet In Heaven, both by Mitch Albom. Theyâre very inspiring books. Albom was a sports writer initially [and still is]; I remember watching him on the sports channel a long time ago. Who would have thought he would write such great books?
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Southern California, where I have family. Some live near San Diego, some live near Palm Springs. They are two beautiful locations to visit, so you canât complain.
What is the best thing about Newtown? The small town, homey atmosphere. Everyone seems concerned about a) the town and b) the people.
Who do you most admire? My mother, definitely. If Iâm half the person she is, I would consider myself a success. She has really earned her way from where she was to where she is now. She has always put her family and children first, and I donât think many others do today.
Do you have a personal philosophy? The usual adage: Do unto others as you would wish them do to you. You should treat others with respect and empathy, regardless of who they are.
Where would you like to be in 20 years? Iâd like to have a family and still have the same attitude of caring and kindness toward others. I think Iâll still be involved in emergency care, either teaching or hands-on. I hope to be a nurse or a PA in the emergency department by then.
