Martin J. Pytko

Former Newtown Police Officer

Martin J. Pytko, 58, beloved husband of Franciene Mihalik Pytko, of Shelton, died at home on July 22, with his family by his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mr Pytko was born in Bridgeport on July 19, 1948, grew up in Stratford, and graduated from Stratford High School in 1966.

He joined the Newtown Police Department on June 4, 1973, and retired after 26 years at the rank of sergeant on April 22, 1999.

In addition to his devoted wife of 37 years, he is also survived by his son James Pytko of Derby; his parents, Anthony and Josephine Poniatowski Pytko, of Stratford; a sister, JoAnn Frank and her husband, Richard, of Shelton; two special nephews, Steven and Michael Frank; father-in-law Frank Mihalik of Stratford; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

After his retirement he took a position with Colonial Toyota of Milford, where he made numerous new and special friends. He was an avid fisherman and loved his home on Lake Bomoseen, Vt., where he fished with his faithful companion, Nora, who he fondly referred to as “Captain.”

The family offers special thanks to Dr Robert Folman of Oncology Associates of Bridgeport, and his staff at the Trumbull office, for the support provided, and to the Shelton Hospice for assisting in keeping Mr Pytko at home with his family and his dogs.

Funeral services were held on July 26 at Holy Names of Jesus Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Those who so desire may make memorial contributions to The Bull Terrier Club of America Rescue, c/o Norma Shepherd, Treasurer, 32 Walter Carey Road, Smithfield RI 02917; Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford CT 06405; or a charity of their choice.
