Letter of Endorsement

To the Editor:

Ned Lamont wants to represent the people of Connecticut in the US Senate.

He is a wealthy man who possesses a concern for social issues. Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy were both wealthy men who possessed a concern for social issues.

Ned Lamont sees social security as an insurance program, as did FDR, so that the elderly may live and die with dignity. That is, with sufficient food, clothing, shelter, and medical care. He does not see it as an investment program with all the risks inherent in investments.

Ned Lamont is a successful businessperson in the area of communications systems. As a businessperson, he has become well aware of the need for universal health care and for more constructive, affordable ways to provide it. He will work to see that that happens.

Ned Lamont believes in a woman’s rights, such as her decisions being her decisions to make based upon her beliefs and the guidance of the people she trusts.

Ned Lamont believes that tremendous human and material resources are being wasted by the way the war in Iraq is being carried out. He believes American frontline troops should be redeployed in Iraq and replaced by Iraqi forces who may call upon our troops for logistical and other support. The British troops did that in the al-Muthanna Province of Iraq last month. He believes that the hundreds of billions of dollars being spent on the war could be better spent on educational and health programs for the American people.

Ned Lamont believes that the war in Iraq is a horror for the American people and for the people of the Middle East.

On August 8, all Democrats will have the opportunity to vote for Ned Lamont to run as the Democratic candidate for US Senator. You need to exercise that vote so that you, and all other voters in Connecticut, will have the opportunity to replace the present junior senator with a man who stands for constructive change in our government. On August 8, vote for Ned Lamont.
