Rachael Ruiz ripped a pair of hits as Ashley Kuligowski and Kaitlin Marsden also collected hits for Newtown.

Hawks 1, Bethel 1
Hawks 6, Stratford 1
Colleen Cunningham whiffed nine batters as the Newtown Hawks 12-and-under travel team defeated highly-regarded Stratford, 6-1, in Fairfield County League action.
Erin Begg made a circus catch at second base with the bases loaded to end a Stratford rally as Madison Hauck ran the bases well, scoring multiple times to spark the Hawks. Defensive standouts were Hannah Koch at third, Megan Gibbons at short and Natalie Dunn at first.
Dunn also helped lead the offense with a single and a double as Ashley Cirone chipped in with a timely base hit.
The Hawks also dueled Bethel to a 1-1 draw in a game suspended in the seventh inning due to lightning.
Cunningham was pitching a gem at the time, allowing only two hits while striking out 11 batters. Kendall Svanda knocked in the tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the weather deteriorated. Emma Herring had two hits as Begg bunted for a base hit.
Ali Kennedy, Hannah Koch and Kate Siroky also played well for the Hawks.
