Three Connecticut state park beaches have been closed by the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) for Wednesday, July 27, due to high bacteria levels.

The swimming areas and beaches are not open because of elevated bacteria levels.

The following beaches are closed:

*Gardner Lake in Salem;

*Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield; and

*Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middlefield.

Notes on the CT DEEP website indicate water samples will be taken again later in the day.

All four of the state's shoreline locations - Hammonasset in Madison, Rocky Neck in Niantic, Sherwood Island in Westport, and Silver Sands in Milford - remain open as of 12:20 Wednesday afternoon, as do all other state parks with swimming areas.

Municipal beaches are not included in the DEEP listing. Local health departments conduct water quality monitoring and testing at municipal swim areas.
