Maud Bancroft Billings Knapp
Maud Bancroft Billings Knapp, 80, of Sandy Hook, died July 24 at her home, surrounded by family and friends. The fourth child of Frank E. Bancroft Billings and Clara Alida Arvidsson, she was born June 12, 1932 at Bridgeport Hospital, and grew up in Monroe.
Mrs Knapp was a graduate of Newtown Hawley High School and Western Connecticut State College. She married James E. Knapp in 1954.
She was a past president of Newtown Historical Society and volunteered for various organizations in the Newtown area. An avid gardener, many people enjoyed her flowers and vegetable gardens. She had a passion for reading and cooking. Mrs Knapp opened her home to many young people, and provided a place where family gathered regularly for weekly and holiday meals. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Her children, James E. Knapp, Jr, of Sandy Hook, Catherine Knapp Taylor, and her husband Lieutenant Colonel L. Michael Taylor, Ret, of Hawaii, and Daniel Knapp, and his wife Corrine, of Bridgeport; and nine grandchildren survive Mrs Knapp. She is sister to Brian of Newtown, Ralph of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Joyce Lorenzo of Southbury, Joan Burnham of Granville, Vt., and Carla Medina of Spokane, Wash. Her husband; and brothers Bruce and Dennis predeceased her.
The family greatly appreciates all the love and support of Mrs Knappâs many friends.
Family and friends may call from 3 to 6 pm, Sunday, July 29, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Monday July 30, at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Zoar Cemetery.
After graveside services, all are invited to the Alexandria Room in the Edmond Town Hall for light refreshments.
