Many Helped Make

The Book Sale A Success

To the Editor:

The 37th annual book sale to benefit the C.H. Booth Library greatly outstripped our expectations. All indications point to increased overall attendance and sales. While patrons came from near and far, we always enjoy seeing our Newtown friends and neighbors over the five-day course of the book sale. Our community is one of readers with an abiding love for the written word. Thank you all for attending and, to that very special group, for volunteering at the book sale and all year-round.

An endeavor of the book sale’s complexity and duration relies on the support of many individuals, businesses, civic organizations and town agencies. We are immensely grateful to the following town officers and departments: First Selectman Pat Llodra and her staff, Borough Warden James Gaston, Newtown Highway and Police Departments, Land Use Agency, Janet Woycik and the staff of the C.H. Booth Library, and the library Board of Trustees.

We truly appreciate the generosity of the following local and regional businesses: Armstrong Movers (Ivan Elhag), Bagel Delight (Eunice Laverty), Big Y, Caraluzzi’s Market, Carminuccio’s Pizza, Costco, Crystal Rock, Dunkin’ Donuts (Jeff Dymerski), McKinney Communications (Dana McKinney), Newtown Savings Bank, People’s United Bank, Pudelz Tee Shirts (Jane Hellman), A Sign Depot (Jeff Smith), Stew Leonard’s, and Trader Joe’s.

The Reed Intermediate School was again a perfect site for the book sale, not just because of the amenities it offers, but because of the wonderful office and custodial staff members who helped us at every juncture. Rich and Ron deserve special mention for their assistance.

The participation of the Newtown High School Girls’ Soccer Team (Marc Kenney, coach; and Kaitie Yakush and Amy Martin, 2012 captains) and Boy Scout Troop 70 (food tent) enhanced the book sale. Our thanks go also to Chartwells.

The enthusiasm of our local media in serving their readers proved infectious, and we applaud the professionalism of The Newtown Bee (Nancy Crevier, Eliza Hallabeck, and Sarah Scinto), Newtown Patch (Christine Rose), and the News-Times.

Someone else came through for the library and the Friends, whose generosity cannot go unmentioned, although the name will. Thank you.

Keep those book donations coming and look for the book sale next year!

Sincerely,

Denise A. Kaiser
