Family Support Group, Nutrition, Look Good Sessions Slated

BRIDGEPORT — A free Family Support Group for adult patients, family members, and friends who are coping with a diagnosis of leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, or Hodgkin’s disease is being offered at St Vincent’s on the first Tuesday of every month from 4 to 5:30 pm.

The group will meet in the Elizabeth M. Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care, Level 3 Medical Oncology Conference Room, adjacent to St Vincent’s Medical Center, 2800 Main Street. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 7.

The group is co-sponsored by St Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The group is facilitated by social worker Eileen Bohan, MSW and director of integrative oncology, and Teresa Money McLaughlin, RN, MSN, AOCN. No reservation required and parking is free with validated ticket.

Nutrition For Survivors

St Vincent’s is also presenting “Nutrition for Cancer Survivors” on the second Wednesday of every month from 4:30 to 5:30pm in its Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care adjacent to the hospital. The next session is August 8.

The class provides information and resources for healthy eating during and after treatment in addition with dietary tips and modifications to help improve overall wellness and health.

The class will be facilitated by St Vincent’s Outpatient Nutrition Educator Karen Novak, MA, RD, CDE, CD-N, who provides individualized nutrition counseling for outpatients referred by their primary care physicians or endocrinologists on issues of weight management, heart and other diseases.

Look Good, Feel Better

Also, St Vincent’s Look Good Feel Better program, co-sponsored by St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound and the American Cancer Society, meets Thursday, August 9, from 1 to 3 pm in the Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care.

This meeting is a supportive first step toward renewed self-esteem and self-confidence for women undergoing radiation and/or chemotherapy treatment. By promoting emotional recovery, the program helps women look and feel their best.
