Christian Hoffman, a sophomore at Newtown High School, was selected as the âBattalion Company Honor Cadetâ at the 2012 New England Region Naval Sea Cadet Recruit Training. He was one of the eight cadets nominated by their petty officers who were then interviewed by a panel of five officers, who selected Christian for the award. He also won the USS Ouellet Associationâs âSpiritâ award for best exemplifying the âenviable qualitiesâ of Medal of Honor Recipient, US Navy Seaman David G. Ouellet, âincluding those of Fearlessness, Humble actions, Loyalty and Patriotic service to country.â
The following Newtown residents were named to second honors on the Clark University, Worcester, Mass., Deanâs List for its spring semester: Bridget J. Naphen, Katherine S. Bamberg, and Rachel K. Rockwell. To be eligible for second honors, students at the university must have a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.79, of a maximum of 4.3.
Christopher Haylon of Newtown and Lara Briehl of Sandy Hook were named on the Deanâs List for Franklin & Marshall Collegeâs, Lancaster, Penn., spring semester.
Victoria Mead, a Sandy Hook resident, was named to the 2012 spring semester Deanâs List at Simmons College in Boston. Her major is psychology. To qualify for deanâs list status, undergraduate students must obtain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, based on 12 or more credit hours of work in classes using the letter grade system.
Anna Janisch, a Newtown resident, recently received a certificate in didactic program in dietetics from the School Nursing Health Sciences at Simmons College, Boston.
Genevieve Marie Santayana has been named to the spring Deanâs List at University of the Sciences, Philadelphia. Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a C and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the spring semester at the university.
Harrison Kass of Newtown, graduated from Lake Forest College with a bachelor of arts degree in history. Harrison was one of the 321 students to graduate from Lake Forest College at Ravinia Festival Park on May 12.
