Children’s Programs

*Reading Buddies: Independent readers can practice reading aloud with a young adult buddy for 20-minute sessions Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 5 to 7:30 pm and Saturday from 1 to 4:30 pm.

*Basic Origami with young adult Matthew Tassiello will share his love of origami in a workshop on Monday, July 30, at 3:30 pm, for ages 5–8.

*PJ Time: Through Tuesday, August 14, between 6:30 and 7:15 pm, drop in for songs, stories, a puppet show and merriment for ages 3–7. The puppet show on July 31 will be “The Three Little Fishes” and the “Big Bad Shark”; August 7 is “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”; and August 14 is “The Wizard’s Sneeze.” PJs are encouraged.

*Robert the Guitar Guy will sing and entertain on Thursday, August 2, between 10 and 10:30 am. Robert Markowitz is a children’s singer, guitarist, songwriter, educator, and recording artist. His repertoire includes more than 75 children’s songs. The program is for ages 3–5.

*Story Play with Jason Edwards on Friday, August 3, 3:30 to 4:30. Jason begins a madcap tale and draws upon the children to help create and perform the story right there. Slapstick humor abounds as Jason supplies his own zany antics and provides prompts, hints, and encouragement to the children when it is time to deliver lines or determine the next event in the plot. For ages 4 and up.

*Artist Katie Stevenson will provide the backdrop and all of the natural materials you need to create your own unique woodland house. For ages 6–9. A $5 material fee is due on the day of the program, Monday, August 6, 3:30 to 4:30.

*Beyond Candy Land: On Thursday, August 9, 2:30 to 4:30, discover board games from around the world with educator and board game enthusiast, Eric Paradis, who will bring a sampling of his collection for children ages 5-9. Parents should remain with their children during the program. Register online.

YA Programs

*On Monday, July 30, from 3 to 4:30 pm, create your Zombie alter-ego with Caroline Wilcox, professional theatrical makeup artist. Young people in rising grades 6–12 will transform into zombies right before your eyes. Everyone gets some hands-on practice creating burns, wounds, scabs, bruises and more. This is seriously gross stuff! Limited to 12 participants.

*Drop in to make a Sharpie snazzy tie-dye T-shirt with a few simple supplies on Wednesday, August 1, from 1:30 to 4:30. Bring a clean white T-shirt. All are welcome.

*Join local teen poet Rebecca Antonaccio, who will be reading from her published books of poetry on Monday, August 6, from 6:30 to 8 pm, for Teen Open Mic Night. All are welcome to come and share their own poetry and music. Ages 12 and up; free, no registration necessary.

*Outside-The-Box Board Games: Sign up or drop in and join game collector Eric Paradis for an afternoon of challenging board games for Teens & ‘Tweens in rising grades 5 and up (age 10+) on Tuesday, August 7, from 1 to 4 pm. These are really unique and fun games that you do not see every day. Bring your friends and test your skill.

Unwind your imagination with duct tape on Tuesday, August 14, from 2 to 3:30 pm. Artist and crafter Katie Stevenson will lead a workshop to make all kinds of things out of duct tape, from wallets to sandals to iPod holders! To make a tote bag, bring a clean, empty plastic pet food bag or similar. Limited to 15 young people in rising grades 6-12. The supply fee of $6 is payable at program.

 

Adult and Family Programs

*The Incredible Edible Book Contest is back! Create a book for the contest or just come for the show on Saturday, July 28, at 11 am. Check the website for more details and to register. This contest is for all ages. Entries must be book related, edible, and family friendly.

*Learn to make a pendant from a favorite bead with local artist, Pat Martin. She will provide all of the materials necessary to make a pretty ribbon necklace. This class is for adults (ages 16 and up), and will be on Wednesday, August 1, at either 1:30 or 6:30 pm. You can make one pendant for $6 or two pendants for $12.

*Daytime Book Group: Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald will be discussed on Monday, August 13, at 1 pm.
