Bethel Woman Charged With

Risk Of Injury To A Child

By Andrew Gorosko

Police have arrested a Bethel woman on a warrant, charging her with risk of injury to a child in connection with multiple sex-related charges that police had already filed against her husband from whom the woman has separated.

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Alexis S. Wilson, 32, went to the police station on the morning of July 16 was charged with one count of risk of injury to a child, police said in a statement.

Police said they held Ms Wilson on $25,000 bail for an arraignment on the charge that day in Danbury Superior Court.

Following her arraignment, Ms Wilson was released on $2,500 bail for a July 30 court appearance. Ms Wilson has not entered a plea to the charge.

According to court documents, Ms Wilson learned that her husband Edward Wilson, 28, whose last known address was 12 Hillcrest Drive in Hawleyville, had in his possession child pornography, after which she forced him to move out of their then-North Carolina home. Mr Wilson then moved back to Hawleyville.

“I never did report to anyone the picture I saw of Jane Doe on Ed’s phone…I really honestly have no idea why I didn’t report the incident. I wish I had a reason. Maybe it was denial and disbelief,” Ms Wilson told investigators, according to the court documents.

The “picture” to which Ms Wilson referred was a sexually explicit photo of an underage person whom investigators called “Jane Doe” in the court papers.

Because Ms Wilson had not reported the matter to police, she was charged with risk of injury to a child.

On July 10, police arrested Mr Wilson on 22 sex-related charges. Mr Wilson had been held as a prisoner since April when police had arrested him on three child pornography charges.

On July 10, police arrested Mr Wilson on six counts of first-degree sexual assault, five counts of fourth-degree sexual assault, and 11 counts of risk of injury to a child. Those charges stem from his alleged sexual contact with an underage person.

Mr Wilson has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He is being held on $750,000 bail at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield for an August 7 court appearance.

Mr Wilson’s July 10 arrest stems from a police investigation into computer evidence that was seized at his home on April 12, when the three initial child pornography charges were lodged against Mr Wilson. Those three charges are first-degree possession of child pornography, promoting a minor in an obscene performance, and obscenity.

In February, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) sent several reports to the state police for investigation, according to state police.

NCMEC reported that a person appeared to be e-mailing files of suspected child pornography, after which state police started an investigation into the matter and tracked such activity to the address of 12 Hillcrest Drive, according to state police.

State police then obtained a search-and-seizure warrant from court to obtain evidence there. While seizing that evidence, police made the initial arrest of Mr Wilson. State police and town police worked together on the investigation.

Both Wilsons are being represented by public defenders.
